The first Hungarian Honorary Consulate in Kosovo was officially opened in Prizren by Dr. Péter Sztáray, Minister of State of Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Dr. József Bencze, Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Kosovo.
 
The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Mrs. Emília Rexhepi, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Kresnik Ahmeti, Deputy Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Ms. Antigona Bytyqi, Chaiperson of the Municipal Assemble of Prizren. The Honorary Consul, Mr. Irfan Daullxhiu is a well known cardiologist with an unblemished reputation and excellent connections in the region, his appointment shows a strengthening of the presence of Hungary and an openness to new areas of cooperation.
 
 
The main task of the Honorary Consul of Hungary will be the intensification of economic cooperation through the contacts of business circles of the two countries, the further promotion of cooperation in the fields of culture and education, and the provision of consular assistance to Hungarian citizens. He will carry out his activities in the consular district, which includes the region of Prizren (Dragash, Suhareka, Mamushe) and Gjakova (Rahovec, Malisheve).
The activities of the honorary consulate will intensify mutual relations, which date back to times when the Hunyadis and the Kastriotas were united by a long standing anti-Ottoman alliance.
The city of Prizren bosts a beautiful commemoration of this historic alliance, the busts of John Hunyadi and his comrade-in-arms and friend, Skanderbeg, which were erected by the Hungarian Embassy in the courtyard of the Cathedral of Prizren.
 
 
 
The establishment of the consular office highlighted the growing importance of Kosovo and its potential for Hungary to cooperate in common areas of interest such as water treatment, aquaculture as well as the possibilities of information technology in governance.
 
The opening of an Honorary Consulate in Kosovo is undoubtedly a milestone to reinforce the bilateral relations between the two countries, and constitutes an enormous potential for further cooperation.
